Jackdaw Hovel
Its September but it feels like the height of Summer here in the Midlands however, autumn is upon us and this week we have made available the first of this seasons planned laser cut models kits, Jackdaw Hovel. It was always our intention to release a series of industrial and commercial buildings suited to lineside or diorama. Inspiration for this model kit came from the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley.
What is a Hovel ?
Hovels are small and often of simple construction and i'm guessing this one of solid brick and mortar would have been a luxury in comparison to those of timber and earth construction.
Our take on this fine preservation is an excellent likeness and the first of our models to feature so much internal detail. Most notably the fireplace which is in direct line of sight of the open door and visible from the window, accommodation of lighting has been incorporated into the build if one should wish to illuminate the fireplace.
A generous amount of internal brickwork has been added as have crude benches as seen here in the cut-away of the original drawing. The base is quite generous and organic in shape, this can be reduced to a tight 3 mm border on request if desired.
Roof construction utilises ridge beam between gable walls and rafters akin to life size. This has resulted in a roof surface that is far less rigid and depiction of a roof commensurate with its age. As with all our previous building kits bespoke roof tiles are part of the kit with the exception of a little more detail included in this one when damaged tiles have been represented.
